TV Show Review: Young & Hungry

Another comedy on FreeForm about to come to an end. The final episodes of the hilarious comedy, that has been on for five seasons, begin tonight and while I am a little sad at least fans will be getting closure; I’m one of those people who gets annoyed when a show ends on a cliffhanger and then gets canceled. If you haven’t watch the show spoilers ahead. I DO NOT OWN THE PICTURE.

Gabi Diamond (Emily Osment) is a young chef living in San Francisco with her best friend, career driven and hilarious Sofia Rodriguez (Aimee Carrero). Gabi gets a job working for millionaire tech entrepreneur Josh Kaminski (Jonathan Sadowski) on the night he plans to propose to his longtime girlfriend. However he gets dumped via phone call Gabi decides to make Josh feel better with the dinner she cooked. The next morning Gabi and Josh are horrified when, after a LOT of drinking, they realized they hooked up. While it is awkward Josh and Gabi decide to be friends while she works for him and he gets engaged to his girlfriend; yeah because that is always how this goes. It is not long before Josh and Gabi’s feelings for each other go as they navigate thru relationships (romantic and friendships), family, money and the occasional crazy situations. Other characters include Yolanda (Kym Whitley) Josh’s maid who is outspoken, sassy and has multiple problems (alcohol and gambling), Elliot Park (Rex Lee) Josh’s publicist who is very witty when it comes to Gabi and Yolanda but does care and Alan (Bryan Safi) Elliot’s husband who has a lot of wit.

I was a huge fan of Emily Osment when she was on Hannah Montana and when I heard she was getting a show I had to watch. Gabi is perky, lovable and crazy wrapped up in one. Josh is adorable cute and smart, but has his own problems (commitment being a major one.) Watching the relationship of Gabi and Josh is both fun and sort of painful; you know when those couples that secretly care, get together, something happens, they break up, but they still love each other (it is actually giving me a headache just thinking about it.) While the two leads are great, I absolutely adore Sofia, Yolanda and Elliot. They are all funny in their own way: Sofia has her “little So-So” moments as she tries to have a career or a relationship, Yolanda has sass to spare between her problems, friendship with Gabi and Sofia as well as her rivalry with Elliot; the two sort of remind me of Niles and C.C from The Nanny just minus the sexual tension. Elliot is also very funny, and seeing him either bicker with Yolanda or Gabi, somewhat fantasize about Josh or his moments with Alan just warm my heart or have me belly laughing The entire series is on Netflix streaming (as of this date) but the final episodes will air on FreeForm starting tonight. I know I will be watching, and I hope you guys will as well.
